Former Vihiga Queens head Coach Alumirah Alexander is the New Harambee Starlets Tactician. He takes over from Charles Okere.Alumirah will be assisted by Thika Queens head Coach Benta Achieng and Mathare United Women FC Aluoch Ann.
“Twelve coaches applied for this position but only five were shortlisted. Alumirah eventually stood out because of his conspicuous achievements with Vihiga Queens and also his contributions to the technical bench of the national team and it was almost obvious because his track record and work ethic preceded him,” said retired football icon Bobby Ogolla, who was part of the selection panel.
Alumira’s appointment comes just one day before Harambi Starrett heads to camp ahead of the second qualifying round of the 2022 Women’s African Cup of Nations (AWCON) against Uganda.
The first segment is scheduled for 16 February in Kampala and the return segment is scheduled for 23 February in Nairobi. The winning team will advance to the final in Morocco.
I know that coaching a league team is not the same as coaching a national team, and I am ready for any challenge to get our team to the AWCON Main Event.
We have no plans to destroy the existing team, but we will definitely find other outstanding players from the club in the league as more players enter into European contracts.
Alumirah’s other achievements include mentoring top female players including striker Gentrix Shikangwa (Turkey), goalkeeper Lilian Avuor (France), Cynthia Shilvatso (Spain) and Terry Engesh of the fierce Harambee Starlets.
